Professional Bio

Stefanos' work focuses on empowering individuals to create, achieve and maintain a felt sense of health and well-being by promoting personhood, lifestyle changes and contextual modifications based on evidence, culture awareness, research inquisitiveness and transformational leadership.

Stefanos defines health in "positive" terms by focusing on individuals' potentials to live well and achieve a sense of well-being rather than defining health by the absence of disease (health should not be defined by what is absent but what ought to be present). Empowering individuals to come to terms (or feel at home) with their current situation and make plans for their future are central elements in achieving a felt sense of health. Furthermore, the context in which individuals live is essential in defining healthy living and healthy lifestyles. Any lifestyle alterations unavoidably include empowering the individual to achieve environmental alterations and contextual modifications. Lastly, promoting the dignity of personhood and empowering the individual to understand, narrate and explain their lived reality can assist in (re)creating individual held perceptions and narratives, further promoting sentiments of well-being.

Central to Stefanos' work is the notion of empowerment, personal growth and individual development. Stefanos work lately has focused on empowering older individuals to live well, promote their sense of well-being and maintain or develop feelings of living a healthy life.  The philosophical tradition that inspires Stefanos’ work is the pragmatist and neo-pragmatist philosophies, where knowledge and understanding of the human condition and human care embrace an antirepresentationalist and ironist suspicious best viewed and translated in daily practice in terms of what is useful, practical and successfully applicable.
